Counter-proposals
by October 5
Tamil guerrillas are due to hand over their counter-proposals to
the Norwegian facilitators by October 5. The proposals will be handed
over to the Norwegians soon after an LTTE delegation led by political
wing leader S.P Thamilselvan returns from Northern Ireland where
they would be attending a three-day seminar and also consulting
foreign legal experts.
The decision
to hand over the LTTE's counter-proposals on October 5 comes amidst
a flurry of diplomatic visits to the Wanni aimed at persuading them
to return to the peace talks.
The latest visit
came from Canadian High Commissioner Valerie Raymond who urged the
LTTE to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible. Norwegian
Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgessen and special envoy Erik Solheim
on Friday left for India after a meeting with Mr. Thamilselvan in
Kilinochchi. |
