Funday
artists on show
By Esther Williams
Brilliant splashes of colour make up the students' paintings depicting
their understanding of the themes allotted to them. Using watercolours,
crayons, paints and colour pencils, students have let their imagination
blossom and have shown much creativity.
Entries from
all over the country have come in for the Funday Times Art Exhibition
that will be held at the National Art Gallery, Ananda Coomarasamy
Mawatha on September 28, between 10.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m.
Themes for
each of the age groups are: My World (Ages 7-8), Environment (ages
9-11), Peace (Ages 11-14) and any subject of their choice for ages
4-6.
While some
of the entries, especially by the older age group have a clear message
about peace or environment, there are others that show nature, animals
and people living in harmony - a child’s understanding of
an ideal world where peace reigns for everyone.
Interestingly
some paintings show the startling changes in our concrete cities
with modern technology but little room for nature. A panel of judges
will view the paintings prior to the exhibition and award three
prizes for each of the categories. |
