Umhar
steers PetesBy M. Shamil Amit
Another fine bowling spell by pacie Umhar Samsudeen who had figures
of 6 for 16 which included a hat-trick helped St. Peter's to defeat
Maris Stella Negombo by 108 runs in the inter-school cricket match
at Bambalapitiya yesterday. In reply to St. Peter's score of 173,
Maris Stella resuming from their overnight score of 110 for 6, were
bowled out for 132 with Sohan Boralessa doing the damage by taking
5 for 67.
The Peterites
going into bat the second time made 127 which left Maris Stella
a victory target of 169 runs with plenty of time to make. The bowler
in form Umhar Samsudeen who had a match bag of 11 wickets in the
previous match against Sri Sumangala had Maris Stella in all sorts
of trouble when he claimed their first four wickets inclusive of
the hat-trick with just 18 runs on the board.
From this collapse
the boys from Negombo never recovered and lost two more wickets
and slumped to 23 for 6. Ultimately they were bowled out for 61
with Umhar adding two more wickets with Shehan Wijetunge and Shanaka
Wickramasekera sharing the other four wickets between them.
St. Peter's
- 173 and 127 (Gihan de Silva 30, Shehan Wijetunge 24, Sohan Boralessa
18; S. Madurawala 5 for 22) Maris Stella - (110/6 o'night) 132 (Sohan
Boralessa 5 for 67, Shanka Wickramaskera 3 for 12) and 61 (Umhar
Samsudeen 6 for 16, Shehan Wijetunge 2 for 9, Shanaka Wickramasekera
2 for 8). |
