Isuru
among the runs again
Opener Isuru Warnakulasuriya batting with assurance for his second
successive 50 for the season helped S.Thomas Mt.Lavinia who elected
to bat first to make 148 runs in their first innings against D.S.Senanayake
M.V on day one in their schools match at Wijerama M.V. yesterday.
The Mt.Lavinia
school were in trouble losing two wickets for 20 runs, but a stubborn
third wicket 65 runs stand between Warnakulasuriya 50 ( 7 Fours
in 156 balls) and Sanjeewa Mendis 28 (in 91 balls) helped them to
recover.
There were two
stoppages in between due to rain and six overs were lost. The Thomians
middle batting fell on the wayside against the wiles of left -arm
(orthodox leg-spinner) Sudeera Soysa, who bowled to a nagging length
to return 4 for 42 in 21.3 overs. While paceman Dinesh de Silva
picked up 3 for 34 in 15 overs.
D.S. Senanayake
M.V after losing an early wicket Kulatunga run out for 4. But Kanchana
Gunawardena 28 n.o., batted on till the close to be 59 for 1.
