Piyasena Wickremage has compiled a new book titled ‘Cinamawe
Panas Wasarak’ (Fifty Years in Cinema)- a collection of articles
based on interviews with eminent film director Lester James Pieris.
Mr. Piyasena
who started his career as a film journalist in 1968 commemorated
35 years in film journalism with the launch of his latest book at
the BMICH recently.
At the launch
the editor of The Sunday Observer, Ajith Samaranayake delivered
the keynote address. The copies of the book were presented to Dharmasiri
Gamage, Kalasoori Edwin Ariyadasa, Thilakaratne Kuruwita Bandara,
Raja T. Basnayake, W. K. D. Navaratne, Chandrasena Kiriwaththuduwa
and Ajith Samaranayake. It was a colourful event sprinkled with
a couple of songs selected from films by Dr. Pieris and sung by
Bhadraji Mahinda Jayathilake.
‘Cinamawe
Panas Wasarak’ published by Sarvodaya Vishwa Lekha Publications
is the third book compiled by Mr. Wickremage about Dr. Pieris. Earlier
he had published books ‘Lester James Pieris Lekhana Namavaliya’
(Sinhala/1984) and Lester James Pieris-Collected works’ (English
/2000).
Wickremage edited
and published ‘Sithuvili’, ‘Kalawa saha Sathithyaya’,
‘Cine Sankalpa’ (1973-1977) magazines and has written
five books for children and youth. Currently he works as the deputy
editor of Vishva Tharanga magazine.
