Ranatunga
to bat for DJV?
By Harinda Vidanage
Sri Lanka's world cup winning cricket captain and Colombo District
parliamentarian Arjuna Ranatunga has declined the post of SLFP organiser
for Homagama amidst report he is moving closer to the JVP-led Desha
Hitheshi Jathika Viyaparaya (DJV).
Party sources
said that while turning down the invitation from President Kumaratunga
to take charge of Homagama, Mr. Ranatunga on Friday took part in
a DJV meeting along with Ven Elle Gunawansa Thera and JVP leaders.
The DJV after its Kandy-Colombo march to protest against the peace
process is working out a hardline strategy on the ethnic conflict.
Meanwhile, Arjuna's
father Reggie Ranatunga is reported to have barged into the office
of SLFP organ Dinakara and protested against its silence on matters
concerning Thilanga Sumathipala. Dinakara's Managing Director Hudson
Samarasinghe has been appointed as party organiser for Colombo West.
Meanwhile,
Nauzzer Fowzie, son of one-time SLFP Colombo strongman A.H.M Fowzie,
has also not accepted his letter of appointment as an organiser. |
