Atapattu's stylish 198 help SSC put up a challenging score

Sri Lanka one-day skipper Marvan Atapattu stroked a chanceless 198 as SSC put up a challenging first innings total of 309 against NCC in a Premier League tournament game at the end of the second day’s play at Maitland Place yesterday.

Atapattu batting at number three anchored the SSC innings as he plundered 22 boundaries and two sixes as the rest of the batsman failed apart from skipper Mahela Jayawardene who laboured for a brief 38. For NCC it was their spinners Upul Chandana (3/76) and Chamikara Mudalige(2/45) who did most of the damage after medium pacer Akalanka Ganegama did the damage on Friday.

In reply NCC got off to a solid start with their stand-in capatain Pradeep Heawage leading the way with a fluent 56.But with his depature the host lost a couple of wickets including that of Hashan Tilakaratne (4) to be on 143 for 4 by the close of play.

CCC on first innings
CCC medium pacers Charitha Buddhika, Mario Villawarayen and Indika Gallage teamed up to bowl Colts for 198 and give the Maitland Crescent Club first innings points.However the visitors struck back to have CCC on 44 for 3 wickets by the close.

Bloomfield in command
T.M. Dilshan struck a splendid 151 as Bloomfield hit a commanding 347 against BRC at Reid Avenue yesterday.Dilshan who is making a strong claim to regain his test place in Sri Lanka's brittle middle order helped Bloomfield to 347 all out.In reply the visitors were 69 for 4 wickets by the close.

Nuwan Shiroman continued his good form as he scored a fine century and followed it up with an unbeaten half century as Sebastianties were in command against Kurunegala YCC at the Welagedara Stadium.

Chilaw Marians set for early win

Chilaw Marians were set for an early win today in their Premier League cricket match against Police being played at the Police grounds. The Marians put themselves in a strong position having made a massive 410 for 8 declared and then bowling out the Police side for 157 and having them struggling on 77 for 3 in the second essay.

Tamil Union set for victory
Tamil Union are set for victory and register their second successive win in the Premier League cricket tournament against Air Force being played at the Air Force grounds in Katunayake. Tamil Union set a victory target of 137 to win were 76 for 2 at the end of the second day’s play yesterday.

Though conceding a first innings win to Air Force they bounced back to dismiss their opponents for 126 runs in the second innings with Mutttiah Muralitharan doing the damage taking 5 for 29. They need another 61 runs for victory.
