The
force from Mt.Lavinia eyeing for their first win

The Thomian cricket team for 2003/2004 is packed with seven coloursmen.
A school that has a proud tradition in cricket has contributed much
to the development of cricket in the country by producing some top
quality players of the calibre of Duleep Mendis, Kaushik Amalean,
Vajira Wijegunawardena, Anura Tennakoon, Micheal Tissera, Guy De
Alwis, Aruna Gunawardena, Saliya Ahangama, Dennis Chanmugam and
their present coach Ranil Abeynaike to name a few.
The Thomian
cricket team for 2003/2004 is led by Sri Lankan under 19 player
and stumper of the side Kausal Silva. Kausal who is a 3rd year coloursman
scored 715 runs and took 40 victims last season. Kausal who will
be touring with the under 19 team to Pakistan will be the stand
by wicket keeper on tour and later this side will be going for the
World Cup which will be hosted by Bangladesh.
He also played
for the national under 17team at the Tri Nation series involving
India and Bangladesh and played a leading role during recently concluded
Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka. His deputy is Videsh Balasubramaniam
who is also a 3rd year player and represented the Under 15 national
team at the World Cup which was held in England. He played only
5 matches last season as he sustained an injury, but now has fully
recovered and will share the new ball with Shehan Shanthikumar who
is a second year player. Shehan scored more than 500 runs and took
30 wickets last season.
The former Sri
Lankan test captain Duleep Mendis' son Sanjeev Mendis who is in
his 2nd year will be the first change bowler and will be strengthening
the middle order batting coming in at number 7. Second year players
Isuru Warunakulasuriya and Navin Perera will open batting. The lads
from Mount Lavinia have already played matches but, are still to
win a game outright. |
