6
years for ‘CF-Connection’at the SLBC
On Saturday, October 30, 1997, there came over the airwaves of the
Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation a unique one-hour program-CF
Connection.
The brainchild
of Sunil Simon, it featured a different blend of music, lively conversation,
short messages on finance and services of the sponsor and a group
of 5-6 individuals who contributed to the program in his or her
own way. Two quizzes involved listener participation with an offer
of a gift voucher for a prize. It was a ‘first’ for
SLBC and it ‘took off’.
To mark the
completion of sixth year, a ‘bumper’ special programme
will be on air on Saturday October 25 from 9.00 am to 11.00 am.
Going into its seventh year of continuous broadcasting, it is refreshing
to take stock, review the impact, check our direction and change
course if necessary.
‘OLD IS
GOLD’ treasured by a cross section of the listener along with
current ‘CHAT TOPPERS’ are the songs played over CF.
This mix of music carefully compiled by Sunil Simon is what gave
the program its distinct ‘feel’.
CF also had
versions that featured live, unplugged selections, which had the
listener asking, for more, some of which have debuted over our airwaves
(to be’picked up’ by other stations).
In this way
the music cut across generation gaps, cultural boundaries and professional
backgrounds that had Directors, Executives, CEO’s, Businessmen,
and housewives calling in and participating. According to the producer,
the studio lines buzz continuously from 9.00 am on a Saturday leaving
many a disappointed caller not been able to get through. |
