Tea,
clothes to Iraqi people
The Government is to donate a consignment of tea and clothes to
Iraq, in support of the people of Iraq. The pledge was made by Minister
Assisting Foreign Affairs Lal D Gamage at the International Donor
Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq.
The donation
is valued at about US$ 900,000. In addition the Government is to
bear the freight and other charges for the transport to Iraq. In
his speech the Minister stated that Sri Lanka has undergone the
ravages and sufferings of war for many years.
"That
experience has enabled us to feel the pain and torment of the people
of Iraq and share their aspirations to rebuild with dignity a free,
democratic and prosperous country' he stated. |
