Government
praises United Nations role
The UNF government has praised the United Nations (UN) and said
that Sri Lanka continues to believe in the relevance of the UN's
role in maintaining peace and security and promoting development
for all.
This was stated
by Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando in his message to UN, which
celebrated its 58th anniversary on Friday. The note of praise comes
in the wake of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe criticising the
UN in the recently concluded UN General Assembly for the role it
played with regard to America's attack on Iraq.
The message
said " Sri Lanka deeply appreciates the contribution of the
United Nations system towards supporting the economic and social
development the country through numerous programs in the areas of
poverty eradication, the provision of emergency and humanitarian
assistance". |
