Poster
campaign ahead of Govt. budget
The UNF and the SLFP have begun an extensive poster campaign as
a means of intensifying the propaganda campaign of the two main
political parties just ahead of the vote on the budget.
While the UNF
poster campaign is being carried out to boost the image of its leader,
the PA is using it to strengthen the Jana Sena protest campaign
launched by them to oust the government.
The UNF poster
campaign was two tiered. The first to appear on the wall of Colombo
and the suburbs was a full colour picture of Prime Minister Ranil
Wickremesinghe and it was soon followed by a poster showing President
Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe asking the public
as to who in their opinion was the better or more competent leader.
Even the party
secretary seemed unaware as to the origin of both sets of posters.
The Sunday Times has now learnt that the posters were the brainchild
of a close associate of the Prime Minister who is also a relative
of Interior Minister John Amaratunga. This personality is strongly
tipped to replace Senerath Kapukotuwa as the secretary of the United
National Party.
Meanwhile it
is understood that Ruwan Ferdinandez -a good friend of Managala
Samarweera -is spearheading the PA poster campaign since his appointment
as head of the propaganda committee of the Jana Sena campaign.
Mr. Ferdinandez
had apparently rented out a house in Etul Kotte which functions
as the propaganda headquarters of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and
is equipped with computers, printing machinery and staff. |
