The Old Mahindians musical fiesta with Golden Chimes ended on a successful note at the BMICH recently. There was a crowded and disciplined audience watched one of the greatest entertainments by veteran artistes. The best compere in showbiz Wijaya Corea conducted the proceedings in a jovial atmosphere.

It was a great gesture on the part of the Mahinda College OBA Colombo Branch who brought the veterans to this musical fiesta. They sang their hearts out with originals of yesteryear.

The show was specially organised by the old boys of Mahinda College with a view to financially assisting the needy and well deserving school children to pursue their studies and to develop their skills both in studies and sports.

On this occasion the Mahinda College OBA feliciated Dr. W.G. Wimaladharma a distinguished old boy, an eminent dental surgeon, who served as the past president of Mahinda College OBA Colombo Branch and rendered yeoman service to the college. His main concern was to make the show a success.

The others who received awards were Chanaka Perera of the band Golden Chimes for his 38 years in the musical field, who began his musical career with the band Becons. Later he started his band Golden Chimes and teamed up with Clarence Wijewardene.

His wife Lankika was next to receive an award for her musical career lasting 32 years, she is still going strong. The husband and wife duo are going great guns by performing regularly at many shows.
