Foundation stone laid for expressway

The foundation stone was laid for the construction of the Southern expressway from Baddegama and Nayapamula. The first stage of the highway runs from Godagama to Kurundugahahethekma in Elpitiya, a distance of 59.5 kilometres, work on which is already underway.

The project is due to be completed in 2007.Work started in 1992. In 2001 a feasibility study was carried out and the project was considered to be under foreign aid and government finance.
