‘Pay
hike not a big sum’
By Santhush Fernando
The proposed pay hike to government servants to be announced in
the budget would not be a large sum. It would be paid in two installments,
Deputy Finance Minister Bandula Gunawardena told The Sunday Times.
The government
has appointed a three-member committee to look into the salary increments,
overlooking the recommendations of the Tissa Devendra Salaries Commission.
"The Committee
is expected to hand over its submissions by November 7. We hope
to work out the salary proposals from the submissions. However,
we have decided that the increment will be made in two installments.
The increment is applicable to both salaries and pensions,"
said Mr. Gunawardene.
The Deputy
Finance Minister's statement comes in the wake of an announcement
by Cabinet Spokesman G.L. Peiris at this week's Cabinet news briefing
that the Government proposed a substantial salary increase for Government
servants. |
