Mubarak gives selectors food for thought with 169

Discarded Sri Lanka poolist Jehan Mubarak gave another reminder of his batting talents as he scored a versatile 169 on his return to the island helped CCC amass 371 for 4 declared against Ragama CC in their Premier League division one game at Maitland Crescent, yesterday.

Overlooked earlier this week by the National Selectors for the England series, the tall left hander continued his good form following his success in South Africa and Kenya during the Sri Lanka A tour last month. Yesterday, the elegant batsman anchored the CCC innings smashing 15 boundaries, proving his batting qualities once again. SSC skipper Mahela Jayawardene stroked a stylish century to mark his return to form in a Premier League Division one game against Air Force SC at the P. Sara Stadium yesterday.

Jayawardene who was struggling to find his touch stroked the ball on both sides of the wicket with his usual flair as he caressed the boundary on 13 occasions and one over it in a 176 ball innings. Batting at number three the former Sri Lanka Vice captain was associated in a 101 run stand with opener Mahesh Dissanayake (47) for the second wicket that helped SSC to 246 for 3 wickets at the end of the first days play yesterday.

Bloomfielder T. M. Dilshan also celebrated his call to the national squad with an unbeaten 150 as the Reid Avenue club took command against Sebastianites. It was Dilshan's second successive century following his ton last week. Bloomfield hit up 402/7 and later reduced Sebastianites to 119 for 7 wickets by the close.
