Menaka
establishes only individual record

Only one individual record was established on the final day of of
the National Swimming, Diving, Waterpolo and Synchronised Swimming
Championships that ended at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, yesterday.
This honour went to Menaka de Silva of Rainbow Aquatic Club when
she returned a timing of 00.28.48 secs in the Women's 50M Free Style
event eclipsing her own record of 00.28.58 secs which she set last
year.
Overall the
standard was poor where in some events the timing was way behind.
The only other record of the meet was established on the second
day which was in the 4x200 metres Women Free Style Relay. This was
also made by the lady swimmers from Rainbow Aquatic Club. They won
the 4x100 metres event too.
Chanaka Wickramasinghe
of Royal College was adjudged the best diver in the men's category
while Tharaki Shiyapura won the ladies category. Royal College with
49 points won the men's overall diving championships with Visakha
Vidyalaya winning the ladies category.
Eranga Fernando
of Rainbow Aquatic Club won the men's best swimmers prize with Prabha
Madhavi Dharmadasa of Museaus College as the best women's swimmer.
Rainbow Aquatic Club bagged the Overall Champions title in both
the men's and women's categories.
Asian International
School and St Joseph's College finished second and third in the
men's while Museaus College and Mahamaya College Kandy came second
and third in the women's category. |
