Manoviraj
Khosla – If it’s variety…
Variety is a hallmark of Manoviraj Khosla’s work - he designs
both Indian and Western styles, and experiments with cut and fabrics.
His Indian clothes have greater emphasis on style and cut rather
than embroidery. Fabrics such as lycra and synthetic knits are used
for Indian women’s wear, which gives the clothes a more international
feel.
Western wear for both men and women are in a variety of fabrics
and styles, catering to teens and older connoisseurs in keeping
with Khosla’s own sense of style.
Manoviraj Khosla
launched the ‘Manoviraj Khosla’ label in 1990. Starting
with men’s wear, he moved to women’s wear under the
same label. Then in 1995 he tied up with the UB Group to launch
his second label - the ‘ Kingfisher Line’. Moving from
men’s wear to women’s wear to the sporty, casual ready-to-wear,
the Kingfisher line gives Khosla the variety he seeks.
Khosla, a veteran
in the industry, has mellowed over the years both in temperament
and design. “I am definitely focusing on sportswear and Indian
clothes. I don’t believe in any extra fittings like embroidery
on my designs and I want the clothes to speak for themselves in
terms of silhouette and cut.”
And his new
philosophy - “Fashion doesn’t necessarily have to be
very expensive; it should be reachable to a variety of people”
- seems to be a change for the better. Guess this is one graduate
of the American College in London who learnt the hard way.
