NDB
firm favourites to retain title
The NDB Bank will be the firm favourates to regain the title which
they won in 2001in the on going Mercantile Tennis Tournament which
is currently in progress at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association Courts
at Greenpath.
Last year's
runners up NDB Bank will be at full strength for this years tournament
by recruting some school leavers and entering 13 entries for the
Women's Single and included one of the former women's national champion
Dinali de Silva.
They will also
have the services of former Davis Cup player Arjan Perera. But the
HSBC team will be no push overs as they have some former national
players in the calibre of Arjun Fernando, Sanjay Wijemanne, Dishan
Herath and Aasiri Iddamalgoda.
There are 5 categories in this tournament mainly the Men’s
Single Division I, II and III, Men’s Double, Mixed Double,
Women's Singles, Women's Doubles, Veteran's over 35 (Singles &
Doubles) and the Veterans over 45 ( Singles & Doubles).
HSBC will be
the favourites to win the Men’s Single Division I where all
4 of the past national players will be in action for the bank team.
In the Women’s single category out of 16 entrance 13 will
be from the NDB Bank where they will score the maximum points.
Six Mercantile
firms will complete in this years tournament namely HSBC, NDB Bank,
Sri Lankan Airlines, Seylan Bank, Nations Trust Bank and Ernst and
Young.
This event is held for the 4th consecutive year with NDB winning
the title in 2000 and 2001.-SJ -SJ |
