‘Man
in the Hat’ back in Colombo
Gary EllisLankan singer now resides in Australia , has just released
his ‘Man in the Hat’ Album on CD. The Album has been
circulated throughout Australia and it is receiving airplay across
the nation. So popular is the Album that it has been entered in
the Tamworth Golden Guitar and Heritage Awards.
In 1988 Song
Writer Norm Burke wrote a song called ‘The names of our heroes’
for the Australian bi-centenary celebrations. The song proved popular
and Gary thought he would adapt it for a song which he has titled,
‘Sri Lankan Heroes’.
The song Iyrics
were written entirely by Gary and the personalities include those
who have made a worldwide contribution to the history of politics,
arts, entertainment and sports in Sri Lanka. The various communities
have also been featured thoughout the song. Well-known Melbourne
personality Eddie Gray, an Olympian himself who has devoted a great
deal of his time as an administrator of Boxing in the Olympic movement
is also featured.
Gary Ellis
is one of the pioneers of Country & Western music in Australia
and travelled Australia with some of he biggest shows on the road.
He had his own show on television and was contracted commercially
by spotlight recordings.
His love of Sri Lanka is well known and his song on the acclaimed
‘Ishala’ Album, titled an ‘Ode to Saradiel’
topped the Sri Lankan broadcasting Corp’s ‘Hit Parade’
for four weeks. Gary has been invited back to Sri Lanka to promote
‘The Man in the Hat’ and he has already got his appointments
with SLBC and Rupavahini (TV) for his visit in mid November.
Gary emigrated
to Australia more than two decades ago but his love for Sri Lanka
never faded away. Gary will be in Colombo next week. The Album ‘Man
in the Hat’ is for sale at Kandy Foods & Spices in Hampton
