Ceasefire
monitoring as usual
The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission will continue monitoring the ceasefire
agreement despite President Chandrika Kumaratunga taking over the
Defence portfolio.
The SLMM's Acting Chief Hagraup Hauckland told The Sunday Times
there would not be any changes in the monitoring process.
"We have
got assurance from both parties of their support and we will continue
with the work. I am yet to meet the new Defence Secretary but at
the moment we coordinate through the Peace Secretariat. The SLMM
has increased its monitors specially in the populated areas,"
Mr. Hauckland said. He said meetings between the Government and
the LTTE representatives would continue whenever required. |
