will give our best shot -Vaughan
By Marlon Fernandopulle
England’s young skipper Michael Vaughan admitted that his
inexperienced team is facing a huge challenge in Sri Lanka and promised
to give their best shot as they gear up for the three match one
day series which begins at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium on Tuesday.
Speaking to
the media soon after arriving in Sri Lanka the obdurate and calm
opener said, "Sri Lanka is a well experienced team and do very
well in home conditions. In comparison we are less experienced and
a young side. It's a huge challenge for us and we will give our best
shot to compete with the guys".
"Experience
is important, however England are concentrating on building a team
for the 2007 World Cup and that's the reason we have a host of youngsters
who are agile and athletic.I am certain that Sri Lanka will be a
good experience for the youngsters."
In the same
breadth Vaughan admitted that facing the likes of Muralitharan and
Vaas on home tracks is not going to be easy."Murali is one
of the worlds best bowlers and Vaas is very effective. Thus it is
going to be the toughest challenge for my team".
Vaughan who
celebrated his 29th birthday a few days ago made his One day debut
at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium during Englands previous tour of
Sri Lanka. The opener who has played only 35 tests and one day games
is expected to shoulder great responsibility not only as a captain
but also as a batsman if England are to challenge the Lankans on
their home wickets. |
