Croft
called up
Twenty four hours after arriving in Sri Lanka England have called
up experienced off spinner Robert Croft to join their team in a
bid to strengthen their spin options against Sri Lanka for the forthcoming
test series.
The Glamorgan
off spinner will join Ashley Giles and Gareth Batty who are already
in Sri Lanka. In announcing the decision chairman of selectors David
Graveney is reported to have said, "Croft has been called into
the squad for the test matches in Sri Lanka, which was an option
we gave ourselves when the sides were originally selected in September.
The selectors
feel to have an extra spinner present in Sri Lanka as past history
indicates that spin may have a bigger part to play than in Bangladesh."
Robert Croft said, "I' am excited to have been asked to come
out and join the squad. Whether I' am selected to play or not, I'
am keen to get out there and play my part either on or off the pitch".
