New
look for national productivity awards
The National Productivity Awards 2003 organised by the Ministry
of Employment and Labour is to be launched with a new improved evaluation
model and more comprehensive evaluation criteria, the National Productivity
Secretariat announced.
This competition is conducted for three sectors: private, public
and school.
The private
sector competition has been divided in to three categories: large
scale, medium scale and small scale for both service and manufacturing
sectors.
The National Productivity Secretariat has conducted several productivity
related seminars and workshops with the assistance of the Asian
Productivity Organization headquartered in Japan.
It has re-launched
the national productivity competition with an evaluation model and
a transparent set of evaluation criteria. "As promised to the
participants last year, a detailed marking scheme has been introduced
for the first time and now the National Productivity Award Scheme
could be considered as on par with international award schemes on
quality and productivity," the Secretariat said in a statement.
The closing
date for applications, to be called in November, would be January
2004.
"Many companies have reported that with the improved economic
scenario in Sri Lanka and better corporate results being announced,
the enthusiasm by companies for taking part in competitions of this
nature is very much greater."
Another amendment
to the evaluation criteria is that only an index showing the trend
of performance, instead of the absolute accounting figures, is being
asked for this time.
