kicks help Army beat Airmen in the final
Sri Lanka Army
in a bruising battle between the respective forwards beat Air Force
by 9 points (3 penalties) to 6 (two penalties) in the Defence Services
final, played at the Sugathadasa Stadium under lights on Thursday
November 27.
The match was
closley contested whereas the Airmen dominated play but they were
deprived of winning the match due to poor kicking over the crossbar.
According to
Air Force coach, Trevor Nugewela, the Airmen could have won the
match. Fullback Anthony missed five, while centre Chandrasekera
(two) over the bar.
The Army in
the end won the match, thanks to centre Vijitha who arrowed three
for soldiers to win. For the Airmen, Anthony and Chandrasekera put
over a penalty each.
There was no official Referee to blow and a Police player Muthumala
took the whistle according to Nugawela. -BW |
