Come
‘Darling’
Another
British classic is about to be remade. After Get Carter and The
Italian Job, it’s now the turn of Darling which starred Julie
Christie in her 1965 Oscar-winning performance as the ambitious,
amoral model Diana Scott at loose in the Swinging Sixties.
Frederic Raphael,
the original screenwriter, has been asked to update the scenario
for which he also received an Academy Award.
“If the
fim stands a good prospect of getting made and the money is right,
I may well do it. It’s a cracking part for an actress to play
but it would have to be a relative unknown, like Julie was at the
time, to make the character believable. he said.
Talking of Oscars,
TVT hear that Christie’s performance in JM Barrie’s
Neverland, about the genesis of Peter Pan, is so good, Miramax are
already hyping the Johnny Depp, Dustin Hoffman picture as their
big 2004 push for academy recognition.
