Lanka
joins world in rushing relief to Iran
Sri Lanka yesterday joined the world in providing emergency aid
to Iran where the death toll from Friday's devastating earthquake
reached more than 20,000.
Foreign Secretary
Bernard Goonetilleke said the initial aid would include tea. Mr.
Goonetilleke said Sri Lanka's ambassador in Teheran was also checking
whether any Sri Lankans were affected by the earthquake in Iran's
emerald heritage city of Bam. President Chandrika Kumaratunga yesterday sent
a message to the government and people of Iran, conveying Sri Lanka's
deepest sympathies. |
