No party is complete without Summer of ’69, and Sri Lankans
will now have the opportunity of head banging to these tunes…
LIVE!! After much speculation, it is finally confirmed that Bryan
Adams will rock Sri Lanka come February 10. The Canadian pop icon
who has rocked music charts the world over for over two decades,
is due to perform from 7.30 p.m. onwards at the CR & FC Grounds
in Colombo.
The
Sri Lanka gig is part of an official world tour with concerts in
the region scheduled for Bangalore, India as well as the Middle
East. It is being produced by Showdiff Worldwide, an India-based
Events and Talent Management Outfit, and Rapport Global Events.
‘Bryan Adams’ Concert for Peace’ is facilitated
by the Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and they are due
to aid the organizers set up the infrastructural logistics.
It
will be the Canadian artiste’s first tour to Sri Lanka. “Bryan
is very excited about touring Sri Lanka, and is looking forward
to it,” said Deepak Gattani, Managing Director, Rapport Global
Events. Vice President Marketing of Showdiff Worldwide Jaiveer Panwar,
on his part, stated that Sri Lanka was a very ‘musically aware’
country, and that the time was right to position themselves on the
global scene. The Adams’ gig will be Showdiff Worldwide’s
first international event.
“The
concert will be of international standard, with equipment being
brought down from India. Bryan Adams will also be carrying some
of his own gear,” said Gattani. It was revealed that Adams
(who plays bass) will be touring with around 30 other members as
crew, and his gig will be supported by his regular band, comprising
Keith Scott on guitar, and Mickey Curry on drums.
Local
sponsors for the event are yet to be finalized and will be announced
shortly. The organizers expect a capacity crowd of 13,000 to 15,000
fans, and tickets will be sold for a limited number of seating,
as well as for a larger number of standing spectators. As for the
prices, Showdiff V.P. Panwar said that special attention would be
paid to ensure that most cross-sections of society would be able
to witness the show, with ticket prices, likely to be around Rs.1000/-or
Rs.1500/-.
‘Bryan
Adams’ Concert for Peace’ will be approximately a two-hour
event, and the organizers confirm that local artistes will not be
part of the performance. It will be two full hours of Bryan Adams,
the artiste who has performed to screaming fans the world over,
and still sustains the power to entertain.
The
producers of the show in Colombo, Showdiff Worldwide is a joint
venture between former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri and Rediffusion
DYR, one of the top advertising agencies in India. Rapport Global
Events, established in 1988, is an events management company involved
with many of India’s leading singers, as well as various musical
concerts around the globe.
Bryan
Adams live in Colombo promises to be one rocking show. It’s
a Tuesday night, but there’s sure to be loads who’ll
