Aye
for consensus
A large majority of Sri Lankans are calling for a consensus between
President Chandrika Kumaratunga and the Ranil Wickremesinghe government
on the peace process and economic development, an opinion poll has
revealed.
The
poll conducted by the Org-Marg Smart among people of all races,
religions, age groups and social strata showed that about 57 percent
of the people were satisfied with the state of the country after
the ceasefire and the peace process. The poll conducted among some
2000 people also showed that about 50 percent of the people were
satisfied with the way the peace process was being conducted.
On
the economic front, the poll showed that except for the people of
the Northeast, the people at the grassroots level had not yet felt
the economic turnaround that the country had seen at the macro level.
