Shehan steers Petes to victory

A match bag of 11 for 117 by Shehan Wijetunge helped St Peter's to nine wicket win over Nalanda in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

The Petes were in a strong position on 286 for 9 at the end of the first day's play on Friday. Resuming on the second day the Petes went on to make a formidable score of 297 with overnight batsman Shanaka Wickramasekera remaining unbeaten on 103.

The Nalandians going into bat were made to struggle for their runs due to some fine bowling by Shehan Wijetunge and managed to score only 123. Shehan returned figures of 5 for 38. Forced to follow on with a deficit of 174 runs the Nalandians fared better and were able to avoid an innings defeat scoring 194. And the Petes on being a set a small target of 21 runs to win, reached the score losing one wicket.

Innings win for DSS
D.S. Senanayake College thrashed hapless Joseph Vaz by an innings and five runs in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Wijerama Mawatha yesterday. Joseph Vaz taking first lease of the wicket were bowled for 106 and DSS helped by a half century by Pubudu Perera replied with 155 for 9 declared. The Vazians put up a pathetic display in their second essay and were unable to erase the 49 run deficit and were bundled for 44.
