Sri
Lanka Cricket AGM on March 28
By Marlon Fernandopulle
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will hold its Annual General Meeting and
Elections to elect office bearers as scheduled on 28th March 2004
(Sunday). SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva confirmed this to Sunday
Times that elections will be held on schedule and members will be
notified as required, 30 days in advance and sent the Annual Report
along with the Audited Accounts.
SLC
President Thilanga Sumathipala is eligible for a re-election, however
with the current legal battle that Sumathipala is faced, a big question
mark lies ahead as to whether the incumbent President will seek
a re-election. If Sumathipalas refrains from contesting, it is very
likely that one of the current vice Presidents A. J. Muzamil or
Aravinda de Silva will seek nominations for the top post from the
Sumathipala camp.
Last
year Thilanga Sumathipala brushed aside Arjuna Ranatunge by a thumping
margin to be elected as President. In the absence of Sumathipala
SLC is currently run by it's two vice Presidents Muzamil and Aravinda
de Silva. Last week Muzamil signed an agreement with Taj Television
granting that company television broadcasting rights for next months
Australian tour while Aravinda de Silva gave away the Premier Knock-out
trophy to the champions Bloomfield after the day-night final at
the Premadasa Stadium.
