LTTE suspects rounded up in Wellawatte
Police arrested 14 LTTE suspects after a cordon-and-search operation
in Wellawatte on Thursday following the shooting of two policemen
by two LTTE suspects on Tuesday.
The
incident occurred at Wellwatte when the suspects had grabbed the
weapons of two police personnel. The police on a cordon-and-search
operation arrested the two men in a luxury house at Chapel lane
in Wellawatte. Police also raided an LTTE hideout and recovered
the pistol which was taken from the police.
The
two suspects had confessed to police that they were planning to
rob banks as they needed the money to go abroad.
A
senior police officer told The Sunday Times they would be closely
monitoring the movements of several people, who they believe, have
LTTE connections. Police are also to carry out regular checks in
the area. The suspects were remanded till February 13. The identification
parade is to be held on February 12. |
