Ismeth
and Champa ICASL champions
The
Awards Night of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Of Sri Lanka
(ICASL) was held on February 13 at the ICASL Auditorium. This annual
event is held not only to honour those who have excelled at ICASL
examinations but also at inter auditor's sports tournaments. The
award ceremony was followed by a dinner dance at the Raja Bojun,
where students celebrated the completion of yet another eventful
year, of work, academics and extra curricular activity. It also
provides an ideal opportunity for students of different firms to
interact and socialise with each other.
The
overall Sports Champions of 2003 were KPMG Ford Rhodes Thornton
& Co. while Ernst & Young emerged second and SJMS Associates
were placed third in the overall championship. The 'Sportsman of
the Year' was Ismeth Shajahan of KPMG Ford Rhodes Thornton &
Co. and the 'Sportswoman of the Year' was Champa Cumaranatunge of
SJMS Associates. An award was presented by Mr. G.C.B. Wijeyesinghe
to the person who had participated in the most number of events
for the year, which was won by Dianne Gregory of KPMG Ford Rhodes
Thornton & Co.
The
Chief Guest for the occasion was the President of the ICASL, Mr.
Indrajith Fernando, whilst the Guest of Honour was the Finance Director
of Growth Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. Mr. Rocshen Perera. The main sponsor
for the event was Singer Sri Lanka and the co-sponsors were Asia
Power and Ceylinco Life.
The
primary goal of these sports events is to bring trainees of all
member firms together to nurture an environment where they can interact
and make new acquaintances. Some of the sports events organised
by them are, cricket, football, badminton, rugby, netball, basketball,
swimming, carom and table tennis.
