CCC-World
Bank initiative to develop IT rural sector
The
Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) has joined hands with the Information
and Computer Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) to establish
the latest Vishva Gnana Kendraya, or Global Knowledge
Centre, in Kurunegala, in partnership with the Industrial service
bureau (ISB)
The
latest Vishva Gnana Kendraya (VGK), one of 22 pilot projects initiated
since last year by ICTA, was launched last week at the premises
of the Industrial Services Bureau, Kurunegala, a chamber statement
said.
"Sri
Lanka has realized the need for IT-enabled services to penetrate
all regions of the island, including rural communities.
The
Ceylon Chamber is happy to be a partner in this most important initiative,"
said Prema Cooray, Secretary General/ CEO of the CCC.
As
a result of its tie-up with the CCC, the VGKs will now be a 'point
of contact' for all Chamber initiated e-projects such as the Business
Information Project providing access to CCC's award-winning business
information portal www.bip.lk to entrepreneurs of the region that
would connect them to the global business information super highway,
the Jobsnet project, which is a matchmaking process for job seekers
and job providers, and the World Bank-funded Lanka Development Gateway
Project.
