City
water is okay: chief medical officer
While tens of thousands of people were complaining about a peculiar
taste in their tap water, the city's top public health official
assured yesterday tests had revealed that the water was not harmful.
The
Colombo municipality's chief medical officer, Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam
said more than 60 samples had been tested and only one was found
to be contaminated. He said that it would be advisable for people
to boil the water before they drink it.
Meanwhile
Water Board Chairman Vadiwel Sathyanadan warned that water levels
in the Kelani river were still low and water cuts might have to
be imposed if substantial rain did not come soon. He appealed to
the people to conserve water. |
