Wimal says sorry Mr. Weerawansa in a letter to the Lankadeepa Editor has said that he had no intention of threatening him, but beleived the Editor may have heard his voice in the tone of a threat because his voice had turned rough after addressing a series of election campaign rallies over the past few weeks. Mr. Weerawansa had called Mr. Ranasinghe on Wednesday night saying he had information of an advertisement adverse to him appearing in the newspaper the following day. He told the editor that if the advertisement appeared, he would not only take legal action, but also organise a picket outside the offices of the Lankadeepa, and that he would attack the newspaper at public rallies. The Lankadeepa in a frontpage news item expressed its regret at politicians like Mr. Weerawansa, who are seeking high public office, threatening an editor. |
