CBK,
Ranil scale down campaign
By Ranjith Ananda Jayasinghe
President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe
have scaled down their election campaign for security reasons based
on intelligence reports, party sources said.
Accordingly,
President Kumaratunga will not attend public meetings and UPFA national
organiser Mahinda Rajapakse is to lead the campaign.
Prime
Minister Wickremesinghe has cancelled plans to address meetings
in Batticaloa in the aftermath of the split in the LTTE. Party sources
said he would be addressing other meetings in Ampara and Kantalai,
but with additional security.
The
sources said the political leaders have been advised to limit the
number of meetings they address, restrict their movements by road
and take additional security measures. |
