Anything
but green
The United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) launched its manifesto
at the BMICH on Thursday amidst much fanfare. And this time the
colour of the betel leaf, which is the party symbol, had turned
yellow.
Previously
it was in white. One can be sure that though the leaf may change
colour many times, it will most definitely not turn green.
Only
fear of driving
The European Union (EU)'s chief election observer for
the Sri Lankan polls, John Cushnahan was addressing press reporters
in Colombo on Thursday when he was asked if there was adequate security
for him and the team of observers. Mr. Cushnahan said he had no
security fears as he had travelled to Sri Lanka even while there
was a war raging in the country but his real concern was driving
in Colombo. That, he said, was the only fear he had.
Major
roofing exercise
A former military spokesman who is contesting on the UNP
ticket in the Kurunegala district has got posters of himself plastered
all over the district clad in full military attire contrary to accepted
norms.
The
man who is credited with giving "thahadu" to put up roofs
for many poor families in the area has aptly had the words "sevena
dun senpathi" printed on the posters as well.
Going
beyond the law
At a press conference on Thursday the JVP's Propaganda
Secretary Wimal Weerawansa was explaining the events which had taken
place earlier that day involving an attack on Minister Ravi Karunanayake's
office.
He
was explaining how he deceived the police so that he could be taken
to Mr. Karunanayake's office and then went on to say how his members
had taken photographs inside the office.
He
little realised he was going beyond the law in misleading the police,
with his members trespassing in the minister's office. |
