Sri Lanka's Cricket Selectors have drafted in left arm leg spinner
Rangana Herath in place of Kumara Dharmasena for the second cricket
Test against Australia which commences in Asgiriya, Kandy on Tuesday.
Herath
who was a surprise omission for the concluded England series earns
a recall after performing consistently in the domestic tournaments.
The slow left arm orthodox leg break bowler has played in only three
tests and taken six wickets with 4 for 97 against Australia at Galle
in 1999 on his Test debut as his best. Hailing from Kurunegala Rangana
Herath will turn 26 during the test match in Kandy.
In
addition to this change the selectors have also named Saman Jayantha
as stand by for the injured Sanath Jayasuriya and Thilan Samaraweera.
Jayasuriya who split his webbing in the right hand and Samaraweera
who strained his groin are both doubtful starters for Tuesday’s
game. Both the injured players are expected to have their fitness
tests tomorrow. The Sri Lanka team will leave for Kandy today.
Sri
Lanka lost the firstTtest in Galle by 197 runs after leading Australia
by 162 runs in the first innings. |
