Clash
for Dr. N.M. Perera trophy
Ananda-Nalanda mini battle today
The Ananda-Nalanda tenth annual contest (50-over match) for the
Dr. N.M. Perera Memorial trophy, will be played today (Sunday March
14) at the SSC grounds. Play commences at 10.00 a.m. This match
will be keenly contested though Nalanda were made to follow on in
the two-day 75th anniversary match.
Nalanda
did well to fight back, thanks to an attractive and aggressive 100
coming from Sachithra Serasinghe, who fought a relentless battle
to stall Ananda from winning. Ananda too had a century-maker Mahela
Udawatte.
Both
teams are strong in batting and the match should be evenly contested.
Last year Ananda won and will go flat out to retain the Dr. N.M.
Perera Memorial Trophy. Ananda led by Tilina Kumarasinghe is strong
in batting. But Nalanda led by Madura Warnapura is no push over
side when it comes to the overs game with players of the calibre
of Yohan de Silva, Yasas Hewavitharane and Serasinghe all attacking
batsmen.
Ananda
has the likes of skipper Kumarasinghe, Sriyapala and Udawatte and
fast bowlers Charit Jayaweera and Ranawake supported by off-spinner
all-rounder Wimaladharma to contain the Nalanda batsmen. |
