Theagarajah
succeeds Cooray at Browns,Wijetilleke new HNB chief
The Browns Group of Companies announced the appointment of Deputy
Chairman M. V. Theagarajah as its chairman, succeeding Chrisantha
Cooray who died the week before last.
Cooray's
daughter, Roshani, who was Director, Operations Development, will
succeed Theagarajah as Deputy Chairman of the 125-year-old Group.
Rienzie Wijetilleke, managing director of Hatton National Bank,
succeeded Cooray as the bank's chairman following a board meeting
on Friday.
Wijetilleke
will continue as managing director for the time being, company sources
said. Theagarajah joined the diversified group in 1962 as a senior
executive and is the longest serving director of the subsidiary,
Hatton National Bank. He serves on the Boards of 16 other companies.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants,
the Institute of Management and the Institute of Directors. Roshani
Cooray joined Browns Group of Companies as Director Operations Development
after obtaining an MBA from the University of Bath in the UK and
a BSc in Applied Economics and Business Management from the Cornell
University, New York, USA.
She
is a Chartered Marketer and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing
from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. Browns is a highly
diversified group engaged in the marketing and distribution of products
in consumer electronics, agricultural machinery, batteries, office
automation, power generators, hardware, pharmaceuticals and travel.
