SLMC
not inclined to fish in troubled waters: Hakeem
The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress will not be lured by the renegade
LTTE commander Karuna, its leader Rauff Hakeem said yesterday. Mr.
Hakeem said he would not react 'immediately' to the statement made
by the renegade eastern commander Karuna that the east could not
be called as a part of the Tamil homeland since it was shared by
Muslims as well.
"This
is a new dimension. We are happy that this fact has openly emerged.
However, we will not engage in opportunistic politics. We will not
agree to meet Karuna until we have consulted all parties related
to the peace process," he said.
Mr.
Hakeem recalled that he had 'signed a deal' with the LTTE leader
to safeguard the rights of the Muslims and said that he would not
let the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, be involved in what 'still is
an internal matter that had to be solved within the LTTE'.
Citing
the rift between Prabhakaran and Karuna as the least expected turnabout
Mr. Hakeem said that he will not 'fish in troubled waters' and would
wait for 'calm to surface'. |
