blasts Ranil on Batalanda
By Shane Seneviratne in Kandy
President Chandrika Kumaratunga has said that if the Batalanda Commission
recommendations related to the 1988-90 period were implemented properly,
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe would not have been a free man
today.
President
Kumaratunga addressing women's organisation representatives at the
President's House in Kandy said that in future, action would be
taken to implement the law properly and corrupt persons, including
18 cabinet ministers, facing charges before the Bribery Commission
would be firmly dealt with.
"Once
our alliance is elected to office, I will ensure that the Bribery
Commission is reactivated. If the present commission cannot function
properly, I will appoint another commission and take action against
these ministers," she vowed.
The
President claimed that the UPFA had not given nomination to any
one involved in killing or violence. At another meeting at President's
House in Kandy with some 2,000 Muslims, the President apologised
for the violence that took place at Pallethalawinna on the day of
the last general elections. "Whoever was responsible for the
incidents, it is wrong," she said. |
