As part of the celebration of International Women's Day, three artists
of the Association of Women Artists (AWA) Maria Lukman, Nilanthi
Weerasekara and Sameera Marcan Markar have got together to hold
an art exhibition from March 19-25.
Maria
Lukman has a degree in Fine Arts from the National College of Arts
in Lahore, Pakistan as well as a special degree from the Slade School
of Fine Arts in London. Using watercolours and acrylic as her media,
her brush strokes will illustrate abstract themes and traditional
drawings of Pakistan.
Having
learned all about art in India, Nilanthi Weerasekara who is now
a lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts in the University of Kelaniya
will put on show some of her best works. Her paintings revolve round
the theme of the beauty of women and their emotions.
Sameera
Marcan Markar will present a collection of her drawings, mostly
landscapes. Currently a student at the Vibhavi Academy of Fine Arts,
Nilathi is also interested in photography. The exhibition will be
held at the Vibhavi Art Gallery of the Sarvodhaya Centre in Etul
Kotte.
A
gallery for ‘Pera’
The Peradeniya Alumni meet on March 28 for the Annual General Meeting
followed by a fellowship lunch at the Vice-Chancellor's Lodge. The
Alumni have taken the Gallery and Museum of Contemporary Art Project
as their major programme for the year 2004-05.
The
kernel of the project is the magnificent bequest of over 150 paintings,
including 120 by George Keyt as well as works by Richard Gabriel,
Ivan Peries, George Claessen, Stanley Kirinde and many other eminent
artists.
Vice-Chancellor
Professor Kapila Goonesekera and the chief guest Professor Arjuna
Aluvihare will cut the first sods at the beautiful site behind Jayatilaka
Hall overlooking the pond. |
