Opinion
poll by Sri Lanka Research on target
Sri Lanka Research (SLR) whose final opinion poll extracts The Sunday
Times published in its issue preceding the General Elections of
April 2 was also largely on target, the pollsters said this week.
The
Sunday Times quoted the SLR poll ending 22 March saying that the
UPFA had a 7.9 per cent lead over the UNF in total votes. The final
result turned out to give the UPFA an 8.7 lead over the UNF.
SLR
said the UPFA will win 10 districts to the UNF's 6 with three districts
"too close to call". It turned out that the UPFA won 14
districts to the UNF's 4, largely due to the "too close to
call" districts going to the UPFA.
It
was correct in predicting that three districts Jaffna, the Wanni
and Batticaloa going to the TNA. as they did. The SLR opinion poll
predicted the JHU and the TNA would obtain a near 6 per cent of
the total vote. The JHU obtained 5.9 per cent and the TNA got 6.8
per cent.
Org-Marg-Smart
was the other opinion pollster that provided The Sunday Times with
its findings which indicated the country was heading for a hung-Parliament,
just as it turned out to be. |
