fare for Radella Hill Climb and Fox Hill Super cross

Two interesting racing meets are scheduled to take place this coming
week when the Radella Hill Climb and the Fox hill Super cross which
is the second and third phases of the SLARDAR Championship 2004
taking place on April 14 and April 17 respectively. The Hill Climb
will be held at Radella while the Super cross is scheduled to be
held at the Sri Lanka Military Academy motor racing track in Diyatalawa.
The
Fox hill Super cross organised by the Sri Lanka Military Academy
(SLMA) Diyatalawa in collaboration with Sri Lanka Association of
Drivers and Riders is being held for the 12th successive year. Dialog
GSM join hands as the main sponsors of this meet for the second
successive year along with a host of co-sponsors to make this meet
another successful one.
This
is one of the most looked forward to events among the top drivers
and riders of Sri Lanka. The gravel which is one mile in length
comprising of 15 jumps for the motorcycle events. A spokesman for
SLARDAR confirmed that they have received a record number of entries
for both the motor cars and bikes amounting to over 90 for each
of these categories.
Nalin
D. Perera who clinched the fastest fox title at the meet last year
will be their this year to defend his title among other top drivers
in the calibre of Dinesh Deheragoda, Aravinda Premadasa, Feroz Omar,
Pradeep Jayawardenda (who was unfortunate last year when his car
spun up the air causing severe damage), Dan Dasanayake (who made
a come back when he won one of the two events held in Katukurunda
recently) in the two Super Car events.
The
other main attraction will be the two Ford Laser/Mazda events which
will be hotly contested between Sajad Zuhair who won both the events
at Katukurunda recently trying to maintain his winning run. He will
have to stave off the challenge from defending champion Nishan Wasalathanthri
and runner up Upulwan Serasinghe while Dilshard Hamdoon, veteran
Rohan de Silva, Zackie Ismail, Dinesh Senanayake and brothers Javed
and Ishraq Wahab also there to make their presence felt.
The
man to beat in the Ford Formula events will be Romani de Silva who
got off to a flying start at Katukurunda. The drivers to give him
a fight are Dinesh Jayawardena, Rizvi Farouk, Rohan de Silva and
his daughter Shehara de Silva the first lady to competitor to have
ever participated in this category and Buddhika de Silva.
The
attraction in the motorcycle events will no doubt be India's C.
Wijeya Kumar who carried away the champion's award. He won all the
four events that he participated last year but this year he will
have to face stiff opposition from young Gayan Sandaruwan, Nalin
Perera and the Wedisinghe and Bultjens brothers. With over 23 events
scheduled to be held in both categories an exciting and interesting
motor racing events for the 50,000 racing fans is expected to be
dished out.
Two
days before the Foxhill motor racing meet there will be the Radella
Hill Climb and the main attraction will be the fight for the fastest
time for the day award for the T. Jayarajasingham memorial trophy.
Veteran driver and the winner of this title last year Suranjth Premadasa
driving a Formula 1600 modified who came out of retirement drove
a fantastic race to defeat the favourite Rohan de Silva.
But
he was unable to better the timing of 31.85 seconds set by Rohan
de Silva three years ago. The top drivers who are expected to participate
in the motor car events are defending champ Aravinda Premadasa,
Dinesh Deheragoda, Nishan Weerasooriya, Dan Dasanayake (all in Mitsubushi
Evo VIII), Riyaz Farook, Rizvi Farouk, Rameez Mahmoor, Nalin D.
Perera and a host of others.
The
fastest timing for motorcycles is held by Shanaka Ambrose 34.90
secs. Shafraz Junaid, Mohamed Manaf, Indika Gurusinghe, Rohana Jayaratne,
Suresh Fernando are some of the top riders expected to particpate.
Meanwhile lady driver Shehara de Silva is on the verge of creating
history as she is expected to particpate in a hill climb event.
She is expected to particpate in the Formula Ford event. Eighteen
events are lined up to be held for the day. |
