Jim Reeves: Do I need to introduce the man we call Gentleman Jim
and his songs? After giving us a lot of unforgettable songs, Jim
Reeves died in a plane crash in July, 1964. The whole world mourned
and the Reeves family was devastated for a long period of time.
Then
came John Rex Reeves, the nephew of Gentleman Jim, who volunteered
to keep the Reeves tradition alive. He recently released his latest
album ‘One Of The Family’ which featured the gems like
“Am I Losing You.”, “I missed me” and “Fallen
Star”. This album won rave reviews from the country music
enthusiasts.
John
Rex Reeves is a nephew of the legend that we know as Jim Reeves.

his uncle Jim Reeves. He entered the Austin State University, the
same university from where Jim Reeves also graduated. After graduating
with a BS degree, John Rex served as a member of the White House
staff. He performed as a singer whenever the opportunity occurred
and this practice led him to a serious career in the show business.
Becoming

Of The Family” and “Sing On Country Music”. His
national chart hits include “When Baby Holds Me”, “When
We’re Together”, “What Would You Do” and

John
Rex Reeves, once dedicated an album to the memory of Jim Reeves.
Entitled “One Of The Family”, he told the stories of
Jim and sang songs in remembrance of his uncle (plus a few hits
of his own) on that album.
He,
told of Jim’s early days; as a young boy growing up in Panola
Country. Texas, I remember that our lives revolved around three
important things: sports, country music and family. My home was
only three miles from Grandma Reeves’ house and this allowed
us to visit her quite often.
It
was here in my grandmother’s house that I was first exposed
to the young man, Jim Reeves. Jim was a great baseball player and
he would play catch and hit home between seasons and we would spend
the time hunting and fishing in the Sabine River bottom.
In
the evenings after a fun filled day of fishing, Jim and his friend
would sit around the campfire and pass the guitar and sing a few
songs. Around the campfire, as the world would later discover, Jim’s
voice was mesmerizing. Jim had a great voice and a great laugh,
and he was a fine uncle.”
John
Rex has an easy going personality, and with his love for country
music and his extraordinary talent, his shows are done in a most
professional manner.
