Rumours
spread in Colombo

‘Rumours’ is not an unknown name to the Colombo music
scene. They’ve been in the scene for quite sometime and had
performed in popular places like ‘The Keg’, ‘Colombo
- 2000’ ‘CH&FC’, ‘Hippos’ and
SSC to name a few.
This
talented five young musicians are now ready to expand their horaizon
more into the Colombo music in the coming months. “We play
regular contracts at the Colombo Swimming Club and Warehouse and
most of the C-Vibes places. It was not an easy job to perform at
these places. You must have a good repertoire to go on stage”,
said Neomal, the leader of the band.
Rumours
comprises Neomal, Duminda Dayal, Sampath and Narendra. Neomal, the
leader of the band is the vocalist and plays guitar too. He does
the most of the vocals for the band and has the talent of changing
the voice to suit the song and the style. As for the most Retro,
Classic and Country Rock to the hard ones from the Credence, Direstrait,
Bryan Adams, Paul Simon to Santana are in their repertoire.
Duminda
is the Basist of the band and a self thought guitarist, who changed
his instrument from the piano to the bass. A lot of harmony as well
as the Country Rock type of song. “He’s a real go-getter
and he is my right hand. He helps me with the arrangements in the
music”, Neomal said.
Dayal,
the lead guitarist is a technically correct guitarist of the line
up. He rocks with his superb guitar play and he likes playing Guns
& Roses, Santana, Eagles, Eric Clapton stuff. He handles vocals
as well. Sampath is the keybordist of the band, who plays guitar
as well. “He has a good ear and great Piano touch and sings
the Gypsy King style”, leader Neomal said.
Narendra,
the drummer boy has a great style in playing. “We all are
working working musicians. That means, we work in our respective
offices during day time, but involved in music too. We work hard
in the music field. It is a challenge for part time musicians like
us”, he said.
“Rumours
played for New Year’s gig on April 10 for the first time in
Kandy at the “Blackout” Night Club at Swiss Residence.“We
are working on our originals and that’s our main goal to release
a couple of original English songs to the airwaves”, Neomal
explained. |
