UN
top job door open?
The spillover from the UNP's National List selection continued
last week with former Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando criticising
the Party's leadership while heaping praise on President Chandrika
Kumaratunga.
The
former minister also said his hopes of securing the top job at the
UN were still alive but said he was bitter at not being appointed
to Parliament from the Party's National List.
"When
one door closes, a hundred others open," he said. One, he must
be hoping, will be the door to the office of the UN Secretary General's.
Latching
on
Television news bulletins in the past week have been flooded
with pictures of the newly appointed ministers and deputy ministers
assuming duties at their new jobs.
And
this time it was not only the wives and children who were standing
by but also the former ministers, many of who had shown up to show
support to their successors.
When
one sets the trend, many more seem to have latched on to it even
though the looks of disappointment on many faces were plain to see. |
