Special
meeting of donor countries
A special meeting of the donor countries is scheduled for May 17
in Brussels, Belgium to review granting aid to Sri Lanka. The meeting
will be chaired by US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.
The
meeting comes in the wake of the new government cancelling the UNF's
'Regaining Sri Lanka' programme which had been submitted to the
donor countries to be studied prior to providing aid.
The
cancellation of the programme is due to come up for discussion.
The aid group is also to discuss the cease-fire agreement Mr. Ranil
Wickremesinghe's government signed with the LTTE and its continuance
under the new regime.
A
team of representatives from the IMF is due to come here next week
to prepare the necessary background for the scheduled Brussels meeting
in May. They are scheduled to have several meetings in Colombo with
officials of the new government. |
